Will Powell

Will has almost three decades of experience training detection dogs, reflecting a lifelong commitment to the welfare of both dogs and wildlife. Raised in Hong Kong and the UK, Will's educational journey led him to a degree in Anthropology from University College London. His interest in the interaction between humans and animals, animal behavior, and African culture became the foundation for a remarkable career.

Will honed his dog-training skills training land-mine detection dogs and handlers in places such as Rwanda, the Balkans, Cuba, Honduras, Nicaragua, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and South Sudan. His expertise played a crucial role in supporting demining operations, making life safer for the communities where he worked.

In 2014, Will transitioned to conservation work. Collaborating with other NGOs, he played a key role in designing, developing and managing successful conservation dog programs in six countries across Africa. His work has helped to combat wildlife trafficking, protect endangered species, and contribute to the overall preservation of biodiversity on the continent.

What sets Will apart is his expertise and his passion for the work. His love for dogs and wildlife is long held and deeply felt. Living in Africa for the past 25 years has fostered a profound connection with its people, landscapes and ecosystems.

Will continues to work at the nexus of conservation, humanitarian efforts and animal welfare – and his journey demonstrates the impact one person can have in the world.
